Basement Lakewood
We started this project a few weeks ago. The client needed the basement renovated to meet the requirements for legal habitable space. This is actually the client’s childhood home — he lived here 50 years ago — and now he’s looking to either sell or rent it out. By converting the basement into livable square footage, we’re increasing the overall property value. The basement is approximately 900 square feet. We had to begin with asbestos removal and go through all the necessary permitting stages with the Building Department. Originally, it was just an open space and an old bathroom. We demolished the existing bathroom and are now in the process of installing framing, insulation, and drywall to bring the space up to code. A brand new bathroom and staircase to the main floor are also being added. In accordance with international building codes and local regulations, we’re also installing an emergency egress window to make the basement safe and compliant. In two to three weeks, the space will look much better – we’ll have the floors installed, walls painted, and the bathroom nearly complete. Over the next 3–5 weeks, the basement will be fully transformed.
